Make Headlines Engaging
Your headlines are the first thing your clients look at when they look into your business. Whether it’s the headline on your website, at the top of your email to prospective clients, or the title of your blog post, you’re creating a first impression. You want your clients, to want more from you. Sitting in front of a computer screen drawing a blank? Try writing a list article. “5 Services I Provide,” “10 Reasons to Hire Me.” Once you get rolling, you may stick with the list format, or want to expand on one particular topic, and creating a new headline to match your content will come naturally.
In the words of Thomas Jefferson, “The most valuable of all talents is that of never using two words when one will do.” As an entrepreneur, brevity is your friend. Think of it this way: your time is valuable. You don’t want your clients reading your latest blog post wondering, “Are they getting to the point any time soon or should I grab a snack?” Keep your content short, sweet, and to the point to keep your readers interested.
Do Your Research
Nothing is worse than content that isn’t genuine. If you’re looking to publish anything fact-based, make sure your research is spot on; and cite it. You’re an expert, the authority in your field! Have the articles, studies, and statistics on hand in your content to prove that you know exactly what you’re talking about (because I know you do, and so should everyone else).
Focus On Your Client
I know that you’re passionate about what you do. You didn’t strike out on your own to start a business that you felt lukewarm about! Unfortunately, as much passion as you have, your readers don’t want to read through several paragraphs about how much you love what you do, the story of how you got started, and how experienced you are. There’s totally a place for that — it’s your about page, or your upcoming interview with Barbara Walters.
All of your content has to put the needs of your client first. Your client cares about what your business can do for them. So tell them! Share it loud, share it proud, and watch the client contacts come pouring in.
End With a Call to Action
This is by far my favorite step when writing great copy for any entrepreneur venture. Your clients want to engage with you, otherwise they wouldn’t be reading your content. So, make it easy on them. End your content with a concise call to action.
Ask them to contact you, invite them to comment on a post or reply to an email you’ve sent out, link your social media profiles to your article so they can connect with you. The easier you make it for them to take an actionable step towards working with you, the easier you make it on yourself to gain a new client or build on a current client relationship.
